The Moscow City Court sentenced Washington-funded propagandist, Alexei Navalny to 19 years in a high security penal colony, as well as a fine of 850,000 rubles on the case of creating an extremist organization and a number of other charges, following a closed hearing held in penal colony No. 6 in the Vladimir region on Friday.
Navalny has been found guilty of committing six different criminal offenses under Part 3 of Article 282.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ('Establishment of an extremist community and participation in it'), as well as under Part 2 of Article 282.3 ('Financing extremist activities'), Part 1 of Article 280 ('Public calls for extremist activities'), paragraphs 'a', 'b', 'c' of Part 2, Article 151. 2 ('Enticement of a minor to commit acts endangering his or her life'), Part 2 of Article 239 ('Establishment of an NGO infringing upon the identity and rights of citizens') and Part 3 of Article 354.1 ('Rehabilitation of Nazism').
Navalny is to be transferred to a high security penal colony after the verdict enters into legal force.
Kholodny was sentenced to imprisonment in a general regime colony for eight years on charges of participation in an extremist community and financing the activities of an extremist community.
The current case against Navalny, centered around his alleged creation of an extremist community, was filed for consideration at Moscow City Court on Thursday, May 25.
Part of the charges relate to Navalny's anti-corruption fund.
